Canadian employers, employees and regulating authorities place great importance on workplace safety. Injury or loss of life in the workplace is regarded as unacceptable and every effort is made to minimize risks and learn from past incidents.
Workplace safety in British Colombia is governed by the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation and enforced by WorkSafeBC. The regulation is available on the WorkSafeBC web site.
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labeling of containers of WHMIS “controlled products”, the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.
